Questions & Answers
What is CQJP? The Crazy Quilt Journal Project is a personal challenge… all about expanding your creative self while producing
a major crazy quilt project within a specific 12-month timeframe. This is an
annual challenge to promote crazy quilting by inspiring ourselves and others
through publication of our individual twelve month crazy journeys.
Who can participate?
Anyone that is willing to commit the time, energy, talent, and desire to create
12 individual blocks over a one-year period. We welcome stitchers from across
the globe.
Is there an overall
vision? Yes, we hope to grow an interest in the techniques and art of crazy
quilting. We hope that participants will be motivated to enter their final project
in local display and contest venues so others might see their work. We also hope
to enlist non-stitchers into the creative world of crazy quilting by their
being inspired and encouraged after viewing CQJP participants finished
projects. We hope to have some participants show their work at the national and
international levels.
Do the finished
blocks have to be put into a quilt? No, but we hope that they are. The
participant can choose to create individual art journal pages with their
blocks, or make sewing or personal items from them each month. The important
factor is to create something you are proud to share that is crazy quilt
focused. A "finish" is any creative use of the blocks so that they have a completed or finished appearance.
Can we see other
participant’s journal blocks? Yes, this year, as in the past, the 2016
blog will host photos from all participants as they submit them this year. The subsequent years of the Crazy Quilt
Journal Project Finishers are available for viewing at the main CQJP website and there are links to each year's individual monthly block photos there as well. When do I submit a photo? And who do I send it to?
Participants are encouraged to set goals and complete a crazy quilt block every
month. However, life is often a spoiler of our fun…and skipping some months is
okay…just submit the “catch-up” photos as they are available. All photos should
be emailed to cqjpchallenge@yahoo.com
Are the blocks judged
each month? No, the blocks are your own challenge. Only you can judge when
they are perfect.
Does my block have to include embroidery? While crazy quilt
blocks were at times throughout history done without embroidery, these
were used as everyday utilitarian quilts of necessity. We want to
promote modern crazy quilting and as such; so will not be accepting photos
of blocks this year that are void of embellishments. Embroidery work
should be prominent on the block.
Must the embroidery be done by hand? Every block must have some
element of hand embroidery in it. It can also include machine embroidery
but that should not be the focus of the block.
What are the
guidelines for participating? Everyone must submit registration information and
follow the Project Rules.
What information is needed to register? First Name, Last Name,
E-mail Address, Country of Residence, State of Residence (for USA
participants). Optionally, if participant want to have there personal
blog added to the participants blog list; they need to submit the URL
address of their blog. NOTE: We do not provide any information about
participants to anyone...period!
How do we submit our
finished blocks? Blocks are not submitted. Participants are responsible for
completing their individual projects. Placing the photos on the group blog will
help to motivate but participants are ultimately responsible only to
themselves. Blogging about your own individual progress and joining other local
participants in a stitching bee are also great motivators…and we encourage that
as well! YOU DO submit photos of the blocks...to cqjpchallenge@yahoo.com for posting to the challenge blogs.
What size and shape do my blocks need to be? For the CQJP 2016 challenge...ANY size and ANY shape is possible.
Is there a way to follow the blog posts via email? Thanks.
